Atlanta's Civil Rights Landmarks
Atlanta is one of the most significant cities in American civil rights history — birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and center of the movement that changed the nation.
Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park
The NPS site preserves Dr. King's birth home, Ebenezer Baptist Church (where he was baptized and preached), and the King Center with his eternal flame and crypt. Free admission.
National Center for Civil and Human Rights
A Centennial Park-adjacent museum that combines the American civil rights story with a powerful look at today's global human rights challenges. One of Atlanta's most emotionally moving museum experiences.
Sweet Auburn Historic District
The neighborhood where Dr. King grew up. Walk Auburn Avenue to see historic homes, churches, and businesses that shaped the movement. Self-guided walking tour maps are available at the NPS visitor center.
Ebenezer Baptist Church
Still an active congregation, the historic sanctuary where Dr. King and his father both preached is open for NPS-guided tours.
